“Ask the Attorney” is offered once a month and rotates among the NHCO offices (Allison Park, North Boroughs at Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus in Bellevue or Millvale). Type of service: | Ask the Attorney offers free half-hour legal consultations to low-income qualifying residents of Northern Allegheny County regarding non-criminal matters. |
Current needs: | The clinic is looking for experienced attorneys in a variety of areas. The most urgent need is in the areas of family law, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, social security, and foreclosure issues. |
Time required: | Attorneys can choose between in person consultations at the monthly clinic or phone consultations. Each consultation is limited to a half hour and is free of charge. |
Training: | Prior to volunteering, you may wish to attend an Ask the Attorney session to sit in on a consultation with an experienced volunteer for orientation to the program. Many attorneys new to the program have found this experience to be helpful. For additional assistance legal resource directories are available to the attorneys at each Ask the Attorney event. |
